From the Director's Desk!
Thanks to everyone who participated in our third Town Wide Book Discussion. Whether you read the book, attended one of the programs or discussed the book with your friends and family, I hope you enjoyed participating. If your book group is still planning to discuss the book, I have developed some questions for discussion.
One Last Program...
There is one more featured event to tie in with our program. That will be on May 19th at 7 p.m. with Linda Ramrath, quilt maker and instructor. Linda has made an “Underground Railroad” quilt featuring 12 of the patterns that were believed to have been used in assisting escaping slaves on the Underground Railroad. Many believe that the “underground railroad” was just a legend and did not really exist. There has been some research done by academics that tie in the symbols, songs and signs used in the quilts and stories passed down by generations with the Underground Railroad. The book “Hidden in Plain View” by Jacqueline Toban and Raymond Dobard and is available at the Bancroft Memorial Library.
Now on Display...
This month our display case features books by Lucy Maude Montgomery especially “Anne of Green Gables”. It celebrates the 100 anniversary of the publication of the book and I invite you to revisit this classic with your family either by reading the book or watching the PBS program on video, “Anne of Green Gables”. In celebration of the event is a new publication, a “Prequel to Anne of Green Gables; Before Anne of Green Gables”. Our display features some of my favorite character dolls, Anne (with an E) and her bosom friend, Diana, as well as some of the other books in the “Anne” series.
Everyone Loves a Good Sale!
Finally please take time on the 17th of May to stop by the “Friends of the Hopedale Library” Annual Book and Bake Sale. You will find some wonderful bargains and delicious treats to take home. This is the “Friends” biggest fundraising event of the year and allows them to sponsor so many of our great programs and passes at Bancroft Memorial Library.

From the Intern
So it turns out I did have a couple things that I posted in March...Oh well, as is life. The first comic (Pihenge) was done for Pi Day (March 14, 3.14, get it now?) for extra credit in Math class; the second (Battle of the Beards) is still a mystery of why it was done...or at least how I convinced myself to take it as far as it went...o_O
I've finally been able to get back to DeRoze Picross. Lots of school stuffs have been keeping me too busy to do what I love most. It only took school vacation and some leg surgery to started again (and some potential bugs were caught and fixed as a result!). I hope to have it done before I graduate this month.
I'm graduating at the end of the month, so this could potentially be my last newsletter. Then again, it may not (provided I still come in and take care of it until August). I plan to do the latter, but you never know that something could happen.
