March 19, 2007


Chm. Ryan convened the meeting and moved into the agenda.  Present: Alan Ryan Chm., Michael Collins, Louis Arcudi Selectmen; Eugene Phillips Town Coordinator, Lisa Pedroli, Artie Maggiore videographer, Michael Izzo Dog Officer, Tom Fee, Paul Clocetti Milford Daily News, Diane Sears, Fred Sears, Nancilee Fuller, Brian Main, Carole Mullen, Marco Lima, Chief Costanza, and Todd Smith.

Community Reading Day will be held at the Hopedale Memorial School on Friday April 13, 2007.  Anyone interested in participating should contact Nancy Verdolino or Elsi Aldrich.

Rep. Fernandes has sent letters to many State Departments concerning the Draper Reuse Committee and the Selectmen are very appreciative for the time he has contributed for the Town.

MSDV to appoint Marco Lima as a Part Time Public Safety Dispatcher.

Michael Ruane presented the Board with the progress of the Draper Reuse Committee.  Friday March 23, 2007 the Town will be receiving $25,000.00 for the use of a Consultant for the Reuse Committee.  A breakdown of the $25,000.00 will be as follows: $2,000.00 for data collection (survey), $20,000.00 for the Consultant, and $3,000.00 for the preparation of additional proposals. The Committee is also working on a questionnaire which will be presented to residents for suggestions for the Draper Building.  Chm. Ryan thanked Mr. Ruane and all Committee members for all their dedication to the Reuse Committee.

A Public Hearing was held concerning a dog at 41 Adin Street that was rushing after residents walking by the house.  Michael Izzo the Dog Officer would like to see the dog restrained at all times when outside.  Todd Smith, dog owner, has been fined in the past and Mr. Izzo would like to be guaranteed the dog will be on a leash.

Carole Mullen of the Council on Aging came before the Board to speak about the possibility of locating a site in Town for a Senior Center.  She would like to look into the possibility of building a Center on Town owned property located at the Hopedale Golf Course, and the Selectmen reminded her of the possibility of space at the Draper Complex and also available space in the Town Hall once it has been renovated. . Ms. Mullen would like to get approval from the Selectmen for a feasibility study which could be funded by Block Grants.  The Selectmen will be meeting with the Finance Committee in the next couple weeks and will discuss this matter with them and get back to Carol Mullen at a later date.

MSDV to approve the request for posting a sing on the railing of the Town Hall for the Greater Milford Area Relay for Life sponsored by the American Cancer Society scheduled for May 18, 2007.

Chm. Ryan informed the residents of a fundraiser Barnes and Noble will be participating in for raising funding for summer reading programs.  

Mr. Phillips spoke to the Board about the possibility of getting a janitor for the Town Hall, Police Dept. and Library that could work during the day and to shovel snow if necessary.  Currently the janitor comes in at night but during storms it would be helpful to have someone here during the day to shovel.  The Selectmen will speak to the Finance Committee about funding this position.
