Our Story

The Hopedale Local Historic District Study Ad Hoc Committee, approved by the town’s Board of Selectmen on September 19, 2016, has been tasked with investigating the desirability of establishing a Local Historic District within the town.  This group will be working over the next several months to research the importance of a historic district, and designate areas within this historically important town for increased conservation.

A National Register Historic District was approved for Hopedale in 2002, placing the town amongst those nationally important places worthy of preservation.  A Local Historic District would cement that protection, and guarantee Hopedale a place in the newly designated Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park.  Approved by Congress in 2014, this park covers a large area in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, but only six sites within the Park have been designated as nationally significant.  One of those six sites is Hopedale.
